I completed my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry with a Year in Industry at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 2014. During my industrial placement year I used various HPLC methods and LC-MS to analyse various reference standards I had prepared for use in QC testing. This experience sparked my interest in mass spectrometry and I was offered a PhD with Dr. Claire Eyers and Dr. Pat Eyers, funded by the BBSRC. My project involves using mass spectrometry to uncover the protein kinase PLK4 regulated (phospho)proteome in cancer cells and link to the centrosome cycle, which is aberrant in many cancers. In addition, a PLK4 inhibitor panel will be evaluated using wild type, drug-resistant and kinase dead mutants of PLK4 in cancer cells and analyse by MS.
